After receiving my B.S. degree from Clemson University
in 1977, I returned home to Alabama and became a full-time
professional knifemaker, becoming a member of the Knifemakers
Guild in 1978. The purchase of my first handmade knife
during my senior year at college inspired this pursuit.
Since
1981, with the development of the SEALTAC©, my
emphasis and focus has been toward specialized edged
weapon systems designed for special warfare applications
- Special knives for special forces™.
"Close association with some of America's elite
military fighting men has afforded Jim Hammond valuable
insights into the needs (and wants) of those who most
require the capabilities of superior edge tools and
weapons."
SOF "Survive"
For collectors desiring greater artistic flair beyond
the military version (MV) styling, I offer collector
grades (CG), with several shown having varying degrees
of custom embellishment. In addition, orders for certain
custom work and "one of a kind" pieces are
accepted.
Since 1994, as the first custom knifemaker selected
for a custom design collaboration, I have been a production
knife designer for Columbia River Knife & Tool.
In time away from the shop, I enjoy the outdoors through
such pursuits as golf, fishing, travel, and flying sailplanes,
and have my private pilot's license in gliders.
Jim Hammond knives bear my own distinctive mark of
creativity and craftsmanship. First and foremost, my
designs are functional to the max. In addition, by combining
striking grinds and flowing lines which enhance each
design, each knife from my shop reveals a work of art
that is ready for the task. When you hold a Jim Hammond
knife for the first time-absorbed by its comfort and
feel, its balance and shape, celebrating the perfection
of line throughout-you will realize in that moment why
quality is worth the price. My sincere appreciation
extends to all my customers throughout the world who
have enjoyed my creative efforts throughout these many
years.
