Terry Hearn hails from Lufkin,
Texas. He was born there and continues to live there.
Like most knifemakers, he can remember liking knives since
early childhood. He was always grinding out some sort
of blade with any kind of steel he could get his hands
on.
Terry's
first introduction to custom knives was in 1978. At
a local show he met John Nelson Cooper a renowned knifemaker.
He took a liking to Terry and invited him out to his
shop. It was during this time that Terry believes he
learned the true meaning of handmade knives. Over time
he learned and improved his knifemaking skills. This
also led him to look more at full tang knives. John
Cooper wasn't particularly fond of this style, but allowed
Terry to develop it. Terry continued to learn from John
Cooper and develop his own style.
The majority of Terry's customers are hunters and collectors.
He has made a range on knives from miniatures to swords.
He enjoys making custom pieces and works closely with
his customer to give they a product they want. A knife
made by Terry Hearn is truly a handmade knife. Terry
has had a number of photos of his knives published in
several magazines. He has been profiled in National
Knife Magazine.
Terry guarantees his work for as long as he is able
to continue making knives. He also guarantees that all
his work is handmade one at a time by himself. Terry
wants his customers to be totally satisfied. As Terry
has been known to say "My word and my name mean
everything to me."
