Our focus is to create
unique knives of optimum performance in an old world style.
Tim made and sold his first knives in 1974 and became
a full time professional in 1992. Marian has since joined
in to make our knifemaking a team effort. Our specialty
is old fashioned edged weaponry. Each knife is handmade
one at a time to our interpretations of history and culture.
We work within traditional lines without reproducing existing
artifacts. In order to successfully follow our vision
we must work on speculation and can not accept custom
orders. We offer our work on an immediate delivery basis.
One at a time as available.
Our knives are hand forged using natural charcoal
as fuel. We feel forging with natural charcoal is inherently
kinder to high carbon steels compared to gas and coal
burning forges. We sense that high carbon steel should
be finessed into shape gently to keep internal stress
in the alloy's structure minimized. Many hours are
spent forging each blade to shape slowly and methodically
to keep the grain size of the steel fine. Our heat
treatment process is very thorough and we go to great
lengths to keep homogenous structures into zones of
selective tempering for a stiff springy spine and a
hard sharp edge. For us, knifemaking is the art of
blending both function and form and we enjoy the exploration
of freedom and discipline it provides. We strive to
create knives with the look of a relic and the function
of tactical progress. Low tech, high quality and as
honest as we know how to make them.
