I don't like learning the hard way but it seems like its unavoidable sometimes. I had a bad "rope around the hand" experience when we were lifting a wall up to a garage years ago.

Love that Knife, I couldn't find any Cottonwood, But I ordered some Curly Maple that looked similar. I'll give it a try.

Curly maple is nice too. I haven't seen curly cottonwood for sale on any knife supply sites. I got mine from Jon Kennedy here on the forum.

Hey Metal99 when are you going to get a touch mark ? it will help identify your work later in life and for collect-ability.

Hey Sam, right now I'm using small metal stamps and stamping my mark into the spine of the knife along with what number the knife is. I would love to get a professional stamp made for the knives I forge and get an etcher for everything els but for now the stamps work.
