Another Crosscut Saw Knife

Here's another Knife made from an old Crosscut saw blade. I made the blade wider and longer than the last one I made. Kept the blade cool in water, so I would not loose the temper in the blade. Had to heat the tang with a torch, so I could drill holes for the scales (left the blade in water while heating with a torch). Hope y'all like it as much as I did making it.

Frank

Knife Specs:

Metal.....An ole Crosscut Saw blade

Scales.....Bocote with a Tung oil finish

Pins..... 1/8" brass pins

Length of blade.....5 1/4"

Overall Length.....9 3/4"

That's pretty slick Frank! I'll bet it would work great in the kitchen. Nice choice on the bocote too - very rich looking.

A chef?s knife is what I thought of when I first saw the picture.
The profile of the blade (although smaller) looks like the choppers that chefs use.
Nice looking knife Frank!!

Good looking blade! I have made several from two man saw baldes and that steel has much more carbon than folks think. Blades made from those old saws will take a shaving edge, and hold it well and, when it dulls a few strokes with a stone can pull it right back to that shaving edge!!!
That black pitting you see probably will not disappear no how high you polish it, or at least that has been my experience! Then again I build mostly 1800's style so it fits right in.

It looks great Frank.
The handle material looks good with the rustic blade.

Might have to pick your brain on how to do that tung oil finish. Looks great.
