just finished this one

Just finished up this one this morning.

5/32" O-1 full flat grind
4.5" blade
9" OAL
Cypress scales hardened with blue dyed wood hardener.

Gonna start working on a sheath now, I'll post sheath pics later.

Very nice, Jesse! Looks like you might have a little 'belt burn' on your wood. I know you don't have variable speed so the best you can do to avoid that is to be sure you have a fresh belt for that last bit of finishing. Or, you can probably go over it with sandpaper and clear it up since the burn doesn't look too deep ...

Maybe its just the lighting or the way your dye settled but I'm talking about the brownish areas on the bottom side of the handle along the tang, at the rear of the handle running through the pin area, and in the side depression at the front of the handle on the mark side.....

Yah that's a combo of the way the dye settled and the blue epoxy I tinted to match the dye. The scales were pretty much that solid color before I shaped them, and since the dye didn't penetrate that far I dyed them again after shaping. I like the way it turned out after I did the finished sanding, where the dye was almost sanded away leaving some places darker. Definitely gave me some ideas to do a two tone handle or two with dark and light colors.

Pretty good man! I'm not crazy about the hook on the end of the handle, but thats probably just personal preference.

The hook at the end of the handle is called a bird's head....

Okay, I didn't know what it was called. Just a personal preference I guess.

Looking good. I like your choice of materials. Certainly looks O1 sharp. As Ray alluded to, the pins may have got hot and that makes the black rings around them. I think we have all done that at least once.

Thanks for posting. Looking forward to the sheath.

got the sheath finished up yesterday before work. Taking a break from grinding this morning to post the pics. Never done basket weave before and wanted to try it. Had some issues lining the stamp up, but overall I think it turned out ok.
