What camera to buy
Hi
I am in the market for a digital camera.I have around 450 to spend.I have been looking at the Nikon 885 it seems like a good camera for the money.I was thinking about a nikon 990 but can't seem to find them any were.I have seen repurbished ones but I don't trust that. I am looking for some good input on were there is an honest dealer.I am also going to buy a CloudDome.I have been reading form them and have seen pictures that have been taken in them and it seems to work; __________________ Watch ye therefore:for you no not when the master of the house cometh Mark 13:35 |

N, when it comes to cameras, the Nikons and Canons are the way to go. Get the best you can buy. It won't be long before you'll need it. On the dome, I would hold off and put that money into the camera. They work well but you will be limited by the size of the subject you can fit under the dome. Anything over a medium sized folder will be too big to fit.

You may want to check out dpreview.com and look at the camera reviews. See how they are rated and identify each camera's strong and weak points. Buy the camera based on your intended use, etc.
I also started on a shoe string budget, bought a second hand Sony P70 (like new actually) and have been pretty satisfied with it. I am still using it.. But, that is only my experience and it is with only one camera. If you go into this with an impartial attitude and check ratings based on impartial input, chances are you will find the right one for the money. Good luck. |

I am a big fan of Nikon (I have three Nilon 35 mm and many Nilon lens). I dont have digital camera yet (but I probably will buy one soon, if I sell my next knives ...) but I borrow those of the school where I teach part-time. It is of Nikons 885 and I of it am very satisfied. I already used the 995 and it is very well too! When I will have enough money, I will probably buy the Nikon 4500 (the successor of the 995 ) or the 5400 (the successor of the 5000) because these models offers more adjustments than the 885. But the 885 are a great choice too... http://www.dpreview.com are a great site to help to choose a digital camera ! Alain M-D |

happy. At the school, before having Nikon, we have some some 2 mega pixel Fuji, but they quickly broke. Nikons seem to be much more resistant! (if they resist to my students, that can resists to all!) Quote:
I let you know as soon as I receive them ... Alain M-D |

do as Terrill suggests. if you have enough $ for the cheaper camera and the cloud dome, buy the Nikon 4500.
Then do searches under my name here or in BF under Boink and there are some extensive tutorials about how to set up an inexpensive light tent and make use of Daylight Flourescent 6500K bulbs so there is no need to do any white balancing. Check around also and see if there are still any images up of my knives and see the background used. Notice that it is basically 18% gray. Makes for easy exposing of knives. If you can't find a site, go to this one that has my collection on it http://albums.photo.epson.com/j/AlbumList?u=4075154 |
