Bandsaw blades
Steve After watching your execellant dvd on sub
hilt fighters. I was wondering about what size, and type your band saw blades were, you mentioned 10/ 14 teeth per inch (vari blades), and you seemed to be cutting faster thru 3/16" steel than I have ever been able to acheive with my powermactic bandsaw ,what speed were you using on your jet machine (sfm). with these blades? Also you mentioned a new platen you had been using on your Bader (pyroceran), I believe. and where can we buy one? Thanks again for your most unselfish way of sharing your knowledge, and experience with us who are obsessed with knifemaking Duke |

The best blades I have ever used are the lennox carbide blades. They are expensive, but last a good long time. I use them not just for cutting, but they are so sharp, they trim edges like nothing else I have used. A tremendous time saver and well worth the money.

Tracy Mickley at USAKnifeMaker.com carries several sizes of PyroCeram for platen use. Great prices too.
I believe Ellis Knifeworks carries a few options as well. __________________ -Andrew Riley For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword.... (Hebrews 4:12) My YouTube Channel: www.YouTube.com/ARCustomKnives Check it out and Subscribe! |

Here's a source for Pyroceram, too:
Greetings Brother Johnson I have done some searching, through the usual sources, trying to find PYROCERAM with not much success. I finally located a glass company on line that will custom cut any size desired in either 3/16" or 1/8" I ordered 4 pieces of 2"x 7"x 3/16" Cost was $7.00 each plus shipping. Total for the order shipped Priority Mail to Alaska was $34.00. Thought you might post the info on the Knife Network, I have tried to become a member but for some reason it does not like my computer! www.FireGlassOnline.com You can order on line or by phone 217-242-2524 Have a great day Ron I checked Tracy Mickley's usaknifemaker.com site and he has a good listing for Pyroceram: http://www.usaknifemaker.com/index.p...platen&x=0&y=0 __________________ http://www.srjknives.com NRA Endowment Member Knifemakers' Guild Member since 1971 "May you live all the days of your life." - Jonathan Swift Last edited by Steve; 04-11-2012 at 10:30 AM. |

Bandsaw Blades
I was wondering if anyone has a favorite supplier for the Simonds or The Lennox blades.
Thank You! Chris |

I get my Simonds from Industrial Supply, Co., Salt Lake City, Utah. About $32-35.00, I believe. Of course most fo the Knife Supply outfits can help, might check them out, could give you a better price, you never know.
Call and tell them the length, # of teeth and thickness. Bi-metal, or not. If not Bi-metal, it won't last long. My blades are .035" thick with 10-14 tooth spacing. Good luck. Just call and tell them the length, # of teeth/inch and thickness. Bi-metal, or not. My blades are .035" thick with 10-14 teeth/in. spacing. Now, if you are a folder maker, or use 3/32" or thinner steel for blades, that 10-14 teeth/inch won't work, the steel will fit between the teeth and they will chip off. Get a finer tooth blade, ask the supplier for help if need be. Probably looking at 18 teeth/in., or so.
