New Years knife

I finished this one up this morning. I was going for more of a toothpick look but ended up with a Persian style folder.
Random pattern blade, bolsters and backstrap 1095
3 1/2 inch blade 4 1/2 inch closed
I picked out some really nice blue/green mammoth at blade show, I finally getting around to using some of it.

Thats one sweet looking knife! I cant tell if its the camera angle and Damascus pattern or that im looking at the knife with my phone but that first picture looks like there is one heck of a concave grind on the blade

I use a 3 inch grinding wheel on most of my folders. If its a wide blade 1 inch or more ill use a 5 inch or a 10 inch grinding wheel. But yea you are correct, deep hollow grind

That is one cool knife! I love the mammoth. Is it stabilized or otherwise "preserved"? I have never worked with mammoth before (never even seen it up close...). The damascus is fantastic. Did you make it? If so, what steels / proportions did you use? great contrast and texture!
Thanks for posting.
Happy New Year.

Chris

Thanks Chris. Yes this mammoth is stabilized. The Damascus is random pattern from Alabama Damascus 1095 and 15n20. Work with mammoth you got to take your time and don't heat it up or it will warp. I suggest hand picking any mammoth your going to work with. Sometimes the colors or the bark is only skin deep and will come off while hand sandinging it. Thanks go the compliments
