KMG grinder. What is the advantage...
of the 3hp motor to the 2 hp motor? I have 240 volt capacity for the 3hp but i can wire the 2hp also. I hope i am clear with my question. Also does anyone have one in either of these configurations? The TW-90 looks awesome but it is $1000.00 more. Oh , and does it matter if you get a 8" wheel compared to the 10" wheel for this particular type grinder. Any advice would be helpful.
Thank you & God Bless Clay |

You didn't say what kind of motors you have. I can pretty well assume that the 3 hp motor is 3 phase but the 2 hp motor might be single phase or 3 phase. If they are both 3 phase then the obvious advantage is that the 3 hp motor will have more power. If the 2 hp motor is single phase then they will both have about the same power if you run the 3 hp motor through a VFD but then the advantage is that the 3 hp motor will be variable speed (HUGE advantage) and the 2 hp motor would be fixed speed.
8" or 10" doesn't matter much to me as I have both. I use the 10" for almost everything a wheel can be used for. If you hollow grind with both wheels the hollow portion of the blade will be slightly flatter when the big wheel is used compared to the smaller wheel. For small blades, like folders, when I want a pronounced curvature I use a 5" wheel that I made from a cart wheel. Whether you get the 8 or 10 I'd suggest you get a serrated wheel as they run cooler and cut more aggressively .... |
