Gene-If the copper is not going to be handled a lot-a fine coat of johnson's paste wax will keep it bright for years!!-for an even better finish take a half used can of Johnson's and put a 6 oz chunk of good beeswax in it-the beeswax will soften so you can put a very fine thin invisible coat on the copper!!--

copper pommels and guard
Thank you very much, Owne!
I'll definitely use your formula! The knife is for my son, so it'll doubtless be handled a good bit, but the wax still oughta' work fine. And I've always kept bees as a hobby, so love working with the bee wax. But copper holds a shine pretty well. We have bedroom cupola above our living room, and it is suspended, in part, by two 6" x 6" beams. And I sheathed them with copper for looks. And we only have to polish them about once a year or even less often. And then only because folks feel compelled to touch the copper! Do you know anybody who sells copper bar pieces online or by mail order? I'd like to buy a chunk of copper 1 1/4" wide, 2 3/4" long and 3/4" thick, for a guard which would also come back as part of the front of the handle. Thank you very much! Gene |
