First shot making a filet knife

I got asked to make a filet knife and here is my attempt at it!

OAl: 12 1/4 inches
Bl: Sharp part 7 inch

Steel o-1 1/16 thick with hand rubbed finish

Handle bolsters brass and then elk slabs(Thanks TJ)

I can bend it just about 90 degrees both ways with no problems yipiee!!!!

Now i just need to test it on a fish to see how it does...hehe guess i got to go fishing....oh the struggles in life hehehe.

All thoughts welcomed.

Thanks

Ross

Very nice indeed! How was it grinding that thin steel? I'd like to do a filet, but the heat treat looks like it could be tricky to avoid warping. Looks like you got it down right.

Thanks Rick. It wasnt bad on the grinding of the blade I just went slow with it cause it flexes more then 1/8 when grinding and you dont need to hog any steel off like you do with 1/8inch thick. If you try to push hard on it you can mess it up quick...just ask me how I know hehehe. I was worried about HTing it too but I did it in the oven i have and made sure on the quench that i put it sharp side down and immersed it as even as i could into the oil. I figured if i dunked it tip first it would warp.... No worries i just plow forward and figured if it warped i would try again...thankfully it didnt.

Nice looking filet knife there Ross! Good job! Looks very functional! The elk is just perfect, really sets it off. Someone is gonna clean a whole bunch of fish with that one!

Thanks for showing us!
