Sheath/Operator "Interface" Ideas

Howdy,

Havn't posted for some time, but have been lurking! Anyway, I built my son a small hunter, and of course it needs a sheath. It's S30V and Carbon Fiber, so I've opted for making a kydex sheath to go with it. I know kydex is not a favourite here, but you guys are probably the most knowledgeable on this topic as anyone.

My son rarely wears a belt, and so I'm trying to come up with a good carry option to put on his sheath. The knife is too big for neck carry, and I've been racking my brain to come up with some type of attachment method other than a belt loop and have come up dry.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Clint

I am not familiar with Kydex other than reading here and there, but I thought there was some sort of a clip arrangement that worked with kydex. You might check out some of the knife maker supplies houses and see if they have a clip of some sort.

Clint, depending on the size (weight) of the knife, you could use a dangler, with a spring clip which attaches to a belt loop.

Clint, I have used the metal clips in the larger sizes sold by Tandy and they work fine with kydex. We use them on the back of a fishing knife/pliers set we make and they work well with a belt or without. Another style of belt loop used with kydex is sold by Knife Kits (www.knifekits.com). They carry several types and the hardware to attach them, but I think that they mostly require a belt. They also carry other knifemaking supplies you might be interested in.

Gentlmen,

Thanks very much for your ideas, they are much better than I had come up with. The shoulder rig idea is a good one, but he is a tad young for that right now! I like the dangler idea as well as the plain old bootknife clip.

I attached a couple pics of the knife. The odd thing in the handle is a tooth he recently lost and we embeded it in casting resin, to give it that "personal" touch!

Thanks again, Clint

another possibility is a "paddle" type option, something similar to what you see on gun holsters.

it would have to be rather thick/stiff leather i would think, but i'm not exactly qualified to know

:-)
