It only took me three months, but I finally finished my version of the Ring Hilt Fishing Knife. I ground the knife out of 3/16" CPM 154 CM that I bought from
Pop's.
Paul Bos heat treated, cryoed, and tempered the blade at 400 degrees F to give a Rc of 60-61. Mr. Bos informs me that the lower tempering temperature gives slightly better corrosion resistance than the 975 degree temper. (A good reason to let him know your intended use for the blade when you send it in.)
The knife is approx. 8" long, with a 3.5" edge. The handle is stabilized Olivewood that I bought from
Alpha Knife Supply. The pins are titanium from Alpha. The hole in the tang is 1" in diameter.
I finished the knife and sheath just in time to take it fishing yesterday. Miracle of miracles, I actually caught a decent sized fish; a 2 lb, 12 oz smallmouth bass. Despite its small size, the knife worked great to fillet the fish.
