I'd say lets do it.My only suggestion would be a March 1st deadline.mainly because Dec.is so unpredictable with the holidays and all.

What kind of design parameters are we talking about for a gentleman's EDC. By this I really mean blade demensions. I have been following some of the other KITH and it has been said that rookies can join in. So if you do not mind another newbie in the mix I would like to participate in this. If someone does mind or does not want a newbie in please let me know.

Wade,

I'm a newbie too, and they haven't kicked me out yet. I've just been a newbie longer than some others.

I guess we'll see what Alan has to say about the knife dimensions since it's his idea.

I'll wager I'm more noob than the lot of you - but I'd love to join in. I'm no stranger to "Sunday go to meeting" type of stuff, and EDCs are what I've been making a lot of. Practice makes perfect....

For all you 'noobs'; you are welcome! Read the stickys in this forum for details regarding the spirit of a KITH.

Alan,
In Kansas, the law limits blade length on a concealed knife to be no more than 4". I'd say we should limit this KITH to that or even 3.5" just to be sure. If anyone has laws in conflict with that, let us know. At that blade length, a 'three-finger' knife or a David Boye type utility should be about right. ...just my two bits. If we are talking bigger knives as EDCs, many states may have laws which conflict.

In any case, it's your baby. Once the details are hammered out, you'll need to decide on the rules, and start a new 'official' thread for the KITH. Don't forget to give it a name.

Thanks Andy. I did read all of the stickys, but just wanted to make sure it would not bother anyone before jumping in. The last thing I would ever want to do is tick someone off. I think things like this are great. Not only to you get to see other peoples work but it makes you do the best you can do on the knife you are making. Which in the end makes you a better knife maker.

You're in. Alan will let us know the details, unless we've scared him away with the idea of running a KITH.

Wow - it looks like there is a lot of interest in this KITH! Especially from the noobs. I think a small gents EDC/Sunday-go-to-meetin' knife is perfect for us newbies. My theory is the smaller the blade - the less room for error. I can't wait to get started. Gimmie some specs Alan.

OKAY!

I will start a new thread and we can all get signed up!

Noob's definitely welcome... I just want all of you to know dot't let it scare ya, try something fancy and different!

I am thinking 3.5 inch blade, able to be carried in most areas of the country.... And an EDC should be one thing... UNTHREATENING... somthing you could whip out in front of your Mothers Friends at Sunday brunch!

Let's get fancy with this one... there are more to knives than just steel and handles!

so how bout this... it must have a blade les than 3.5 inches... must be small and convenient to carry... MUST be embelished in some way...

damascus for you forgers maybe?
fancy filework or carving?
mokume fitting?
scrim?
ect
ect
ect....

Let's get creative and learn from each other... I know its really nice to have a surprise when your KITH trade shows up, but I vote (especially with the noobs) to keep this all in the forums, trade ideas, and techniques for embelishment and materials and design so we can really open each others minds so to speak. That way we can ALL learn some cool techniques!

So the last parameter I would suggest, would be you post AT LEAST one tutorial or such to show us how YOU do something... No pressure, sometimes I learn from the newest people that come to my shop, just by the way they go about doing something they have never done before.

So what say you all??

Any quarels with these parameters before I start the thread?? with a MARCH 3rd DEADLINE (first monday)
