Custom fishing knife
I'm getting ready to work on a folding fishing knife. It's gonna have a 4" fillet blade, a 3-1/2" regualar drop point blade, and a tie fast do-hickey that I saw on Cabela's website. For the handle material, I want to do cork scales. I'm going to test this out first, but I'm hoping that the cork will keep the metal afloat, so if a fisherman drops it, it will still float. It's going to be a little more of challenge, trying to put everything together. Do any of ya'll have any suggestions? I'm putting this together for my uncle cause he's an avid fisherman.

What I would suggest is a very thin steel and quite thick and contoured handles....
Cork will not float all that much weight.... You may even consider hidden tang to keep the weight down even more.... Alan Folts |

I saw one with Neoprene handles, I don't know where they got it. But, you can use a handle that floats a little bit and make it with a thong hole and a nice floating thong. You can then thread a floating material on the thong so it won't sink. Come to think of it, I think I saw neoprene handle material in K&G. That's the same stuff some wetsuits are made of. Neoprene by itself won't keep a knife floating.
