Shop build pictures
BCROB asked if I'd post up pictures of my shop build so here ya go. I started with a existing 12x12 structure that has our well pumps and stuff in it. First thing i did was remove the junky GE electrical panel and installed a new 100a Cutler-Hammer panel..
So now we have a 12'x24' humble shop! i installed 4 20 amp curcuits for plugs and 2 15 amp curcuits for lighting. i plan on insulating and putting plywood up on the inside then eventually pouring a concete slab off the left side of the shop for my blacksmithing area but im outta money now.. All in all the build was just over 3k in cost but because i built off the existing building i really only need to frame 2 1/2 walls so it was the cheapest way to get maximum space. ~Nate Last edited by NorCal Nate; 12-29-2014 at 02:44 PM. |

Nice looking shop. Nothing like being able to do things yourself, gives a man a great deal of satisfaction...

Building a new shop is always an exciting time. I envy you. Just remember that you can never have too many electrical outlets (both 110 & 220 volt) as well as too much natural light.
Good luck. I'm sure that you are going to enjoy it. Gary __________________ Gary ABS,CKCA, ABKA,KGA |

Gary, in the dirty room I have about 20 plugs and in the clean room 12. And there is plenty room in the panel to add whatever else. Lights are all t8 fixtures. I ripped out the old clear poly roof on the existing building and layed 5/8 ply below metal on all of it because we're surrounded by trees..a 2" branch is like a missile.

Looking good! That is one of the things like Gary said, you can never have enough of..........plugs, lights and space. I seem to run out of them all the time. I got roughly 240 sq. ft. in my shop and mostly I have a walkway down the middle! Good luck with the new shop!

I want that knife to look so good you just have to pick it up, feel so good in your hand you can't wait to try it, and once you use it, you never want to put it down ! If I capture those three factors in each knife I build, I am assured the knife will become a piece that is used and treasured by its owner! C Craft |

Great shop, looks almost exactly like mine. Here in Montana I had to insulate the ceiling and walls and used OSB on the inside walls instead of drywall or the like. Besides the wiring and lighting suggestions I would add to paint the walls white inside. I just used two coats of primer and with lots of overhead light the reflected light is very good. Also, I used horse stall mats on the floor after much deliberation. They work great, easy on the feet when standing all day, no problems yet with welding inside (mig only).
Darn if it don't fill up fast! |
