Lapis dagger

this is the last dagger made for the Frazier collection...It marks the end of a 21 year project to build Mr. Frazier a one of a kind knife collection...the collection will go display in Louisville Ky. in the spring of 2004...We have one folder left to do.....This is a Lapis dagger . 440-C ...Julie Warenski did the engraving...All fittings are 440-C blade length 10 inchesx1/4 thick.....it was a pleasure working for Mr. Frazier

Lloyd,

That is a fantastic knife. Man you really know how to put together an eye-popper. Julie's work isn't too shabby either.

When are you opening school in "Knifeville"? I'd bet that you could fill a class or two!

Lloyd,

Would you mind sharing some of your thoughts and observations about doing this project? I think everyone here would love to read about the idea behind the project and the approach you took to execute it so well.

Truly outstanding!

Tim

Hello Tim
This particular dagger came about, because of a phone conversation with Buster Warenski....over a year ago...I asked him if he had seen Harvey McBurnette lately and he said Harvey had died a few years back....Well this hit me hard because Harvey and Glenda were at their first Guild show where I met them and Buster for the first time ..I think it was 1973 or4.....I have been out of touch with my fellow knifemakers for so long and just hadn't heard..... I called Glenda and talked with her for an hour or two and in the conversation she said a lot of harvey's materials were still in the shop and would I like to buy them...
I called mr. Frazier and told him about the materials and he said yes, buy it ...So I went to Eagle Nest New Mexico .....It was a feeling I will never forget ,standing in my fellow Knifemakers shop on a cold winter morning ....There were plastic lunch boxes filled with gold lip pearl , black pearl, Lapis, abalone, Malakite... the Lapis in this dagger was Harvey's and I designed it with him and Glenda in mind..

If I don't see another knife photo for an entire year, this dagger serves up enough inspiration to keep me going for at least several more years... As far as I'm concerned, this is what it's all about...this is the stuff of dreams.

I can't imagine a more fitting way to honor your friend...

Dennis

Yeah Baby !

PS. Yet another pic to add to my (much viewed) "Lloyd Hale" folder

Gorgeous and unique. Stories always make knives so much better.
