PC Metal Finishes - browning vs blueing
Howdy folks - Anybody out there have documentation regarding the early use of browning and/or bluing as a rust resistant finish on iron and steel.
Documented quotes are what are needed - I am sure of read of their use and IIRC they go back early but don't have a lot of early sources at my fingertips and quick google search didn't turn up and after the weekedn I had my brain is a bit fried anyway Any help is much appreciated. __________________ Chuck Burrows Hand Crafted Leather & Frontier Knives dba Wild Rose Trading Co Durango, CO chuck@wrtcleather.com www.wrtcleather.com The beautiful sheaths created for storing the knife elevate the knife one step higher. Foxfire 5 (ISBN 0-385-14308-7) has a browning solution from 1841, how far back do you want to go?

Your request was intriguing enough to make me look through my old gun books. Unfortunately, I couldn't find any solid references for you. Just wanted to let you know that we're out here trying!

Thanks guys - I'm sure I've read about browning/bluing going back to at least Roman times but my notes on such stuff got "lost" a few years ago and I don't have a lot of the refernce books at hand I did at the time.
