Knife Steel Discussion Podcast
The podcast episode An Overview of Knife Blade Steels has a good overview of what everyone should know about the steel used in blades. You can listen to it on the site or download it as an mp3.

Not bad, although it's geared towards someone trying to buy a knife rather than someone trying to make a knife. But, if you pay close attention a newbie maker could pick up some useful info. The only thing he said that I disagreed with was he inferred that a differentially heat treated blade had to be a forged blade and that's simply not true. He didn't state that outright, but he allowed the listener to assume that from the way he spoke about it. Other than that, I thought his handling of the comparison between stock removal and forging was reasonably even handed ....
