What are the chances this is real damascus?

It IS real damascus, made in a lot of backyard forges in China. This is not a Japanese Nihonto, but a comtemporary sword forged and artificially aged and etched to make the pattern more visible.
So the question arises how they can afford to make such a sword? If you look at the shipping cost you have your answer. These guys already have their minimum wage just by the shipping cost so everything above 0,99 cents is profit. Altough nobody is fooled by the fact that this is genuine, the question has been raised if these sword should make good knife blanks. Because i am not a knifemaker i have no valid opinion about the steel used in the "swords", but from a knifemakers vieuwpoint it could be interresting to buy one of these sword and make a (or more) knives from one of these swords. |

If it dosn't make good knife blades, then it can be used to make bolsters etc. Pretty cool wallhanger too.
