Place to heart treat "locally"

Hello guys,

Sorry if there is a way to search for this answer, but I could not get what I needed.

I am very new at this and just ground 2 knives I want to send out for heat treating. 1084 and 1095 steel. I am in baltimore, MD area. Can any one recommend a place that is affordable and relatively fast/professional? I know of Peter's Heat Treating, but I their cost maybe more that I really want to spend on my "efforts."

Thanks!

Peter's is probably as cheap as any commercial outfit you can find for those steels. You might find an individual that will do it for you but one of the reasons we suggest 1084 to beginners is that it is fairly simple to heat treat yourself.

If you want cheap heat treating you need to use 440C and send it to Texas Knifemakers ....
