Epoxy Question
I'm looking into ordering some acraglass and I see several options. What specifically should I get.

The regular stuff, not the gel. The small kit, not the large bottles (at least until you're sure of your usage). The kit I mean should be about $17 ...

Do you mean the "2 gun" kit? How many knives could I do with that (roughly)?

Depends on the knives. If you're just slapping a layer under some scales then quite a few. If you're filling up tang holes for stub tangs like I do then still quite a few.
If you store it correctly, measure what you need without over doing it too much, and are careful not to let a drop of hardener get into the epoxy bottle you should be very satisfied with how long that kit will last ... |

Yes. Brownell's is a supplier for gunsmiths. I'm reasonably sure they ship internationally ...

I haven't seen anything as to the storage of acraglass, especially in the cold. Is there a minimum storage temperature? I know when it was cold it considerably thickened and needed to be warmed prior to using, would hurt the cured strength?

EDIT: never mind the first question i found the 60-72 degree storage line, but would the product be unusable if stored in colder temps?

Sometimes mine has been colder than that and it still seemed to work all right but it was much more difficult to get it to mix correctly. Frankly, unless you live in an igloo I can't see much reason why you would need to store it much under 70 degrees. My shop is only about 45 F so I moved the glue into the cabin where its warmer. If you mix glue every day or two that might be inconvenient but it works out OK for me ...

I've been using Glen-L Poxy-Grip for the last few years.
I had some left over after building my boat. I have been extremely pleased! __________________ Andy Garrett https://www.facebook.com/GarrettKnives?ref=hl Charter Member - Kansas Custom Knifemaker's Association www.kansasknives.org "Drawing your knife from its sheath and using it in the presence of others should be an event complete with oos, ahhs, and questions." |
