One More to show off

This little Browning was also engraved by Ray Cover Jr. I am a big fan of the site and the artists who post here and like to share photos of some of the items in my collection now and then.

Thanks for having a look.

You know, I think a bit of scrimshaw on that nice ivory handle would add to that cute little Browning...maybe continue with the scroll engraving......I guess I have a thing about ivory!

But really, it's very nice! Thanks so much for showing it off!

Thanks for all the kind comments everyone. The credit goes to the polisher who is no longer in the gunsmithing business but who painstakenly polished the little gun with sandpaper, to Ray who really put alot of time into getting the design just right and executed the engraving to perfection and to Mr. Fishpaw who made and fitted the grips.

Lori funny you mention the grips they became a bit more critical to the project than I had anticipated.

We started with Ebony and they just did not work. The answer was to send the pistol off to Mr. Fishpaw for a set of Ivory grips. He turned the gun around in record time despite his backlog. In fact he no longer does work for new customers.

I enjoy it so much i am even reluctant to let it out of my hands to have a proper photo taken.

I have to agree with Lori the right scrim would look really super to go along with the super engraving job.

I find scrim to be at its best when it is done as a stand alone art work, it is tough to really have it work with an item that is already engraved. Too much of a good thing in many cases. This opinion is only based on examples that I have seen. A continuation of the scroll as suggested is about the only thing that might suit to my eye. I have no skill in the visual arts so am only speaking as an occasional consumer of engraving.

I'm not sure if you'd really call this scrimshaw or engraving, but I think on some guns something like this would be really awesome. To have your engraving flow from your steel onto your handles would look really nice, but this little gun is just perfect to me like it is, the engraving is awesome and the Ivory has that nice grain, and is flawless. I think on this one I would leave it just like it is.

That's pretty much what I was thinking - leaving a lot of the ivory grip clear, but just extending the engraving a little bit.

Dwayne some say it is engraving some say it is scrimshaw; actually scrimshaw can be done on ivory, pearl, plastic, bone, antler, horn, and many other materials. Any way that you look at it, it is beautiful.

I agree Curtis. I like a simple knife with no embellishing if the fit & finish is what it is supposed to be, but I also like those that have been dressed up to the max. It all depends on the piece, sometimes it just seems that something is missing, and other times you could just gaze at it for hours enjoying it's simplistic beauty.
