Anybody recognize the maker of this old custom knife?

A friend of mine, an insurance adjustor, bought this knife in Houston after it was recovered following a burglary. That was about 12-15 years ago. it's obviously hand made from 1/4" thick high carbon steel barstock. walnut handle, brass tang nut with a hole to twist it tight, hidden tang, brass guard. it's well fitted and hollow ground. The brass nameplate inlet into the handle reads "Expressly for B. Foster". This was recovered in Houston, Texas. I think maybe it might have been made by a Houston knifemaker in his early days, maybe before he started using a logo. There is no maker's mark on it anywhere. My friend came into my shop this morning, and brought a sack full of his old knives to show me. All the others were factory knives or knockoffs; this was the only hand made knife. If somone recognizes the knife or maker, I'd like to be able to identify it for my friend. Last edited by Don Robinson; 01-10-2006 at 06:43 PM. |
