A little practice plate
Hi Folks:
I was messing around with a small practice plate and thought I would put it up so you all could see. This is a piece of scrap o-1 tool steel, with copper wire inlay. Sorry for the poor photos, this is an area I am also working on Your comments and or critiques are welcome. Thanks for looking __________________ DarrenP.Reeves Custom Hand Engraving Billings, Montana 1-406-245-3444 Knife in Avatar Dream as if you'll live forever. Live as if you'll die today. |

Darren,
This is very nice. I like the depth of shading you are getting next to the inlayed stems. Thanks for showing it. Joe |

Darren,
I like the design. The shading is very well done. I only see one thing that sticks out at me. This may be due to the photo so it might not be a fair criticism of the work but the background looks a litte uneven. I can't tell if what I am seeing is becasue of reflections in the photo or not. Your inlay is nice and clean too. Ray |

Very nice Darren!!! I especially like the shading, the inlay and the border around the outside copper inlay. I'm always impressed when anyone shows their work under such magnification.

darren there is only one thing i can say about this project . it is afull .......... GOOD . yes your back ground is a little un ever but your scroll work does make up for that little problem .. it looks to me like you used an rotary tool for removing the back ground, when i do it i use a square chisel and keep cutting lines until i get the depth that i want and then i use a flat punch and gover it again and flatten out all of the chisel marks and then i stippel over that, it may sound like a lot of work but it does look good . thanks again for posting your work .. will you be in atlanta .. ron

Thanks guys for the nice compliments
Ray you are right, it's not the camera, I just didn't put the time into the background that I should have. No excuse for me on that, I know what to do and how to do it, I just didn't follow through. A good lessen here for some of the knew guys and gals. DON"T Skimp on your work and think it might go un noticed. I will practice what I preach next time. Thanks again and thanks for keeping me on my toes. I really wish I could get to blade this year to meet you all but it's just not in the cards. When is the Chicago show? I might be able to make that one. __________________ DarrenP.Reeves Custom Hand Engraving Billings, Montana 1-406-245-3444 Knife in Avatar Dream as if you'll live forever.
