'06 Blade Show Highlights

What a ride!
Hope everyone got home safe and sound.

Here's some photo shots from this exciting event!!

My friend and table neighbor Ray Cover Jr.
[Sometimes classic shots just fall into your lap... ...you can put your own caption on it.....doh!...]

Scott Pilkington and Ray Cover Jr.

Joe Mason,
[...and if you look real close...that elf on his right shoulder is none other than Ron Nott...and, on Ron's shoulder is Bob Eggerling!
...I couldn't have done better at a turkey shoot!!]

Billy Bates had the table left of mine.
He just keeps on truckin' all weekend long.

[People sometimes ask...why ain't Tim hardly ever at his table?
...Well, if you had Ray a-buzzin' to beat the band on one side...
...and Billy goin' tap, tap, tap incessantly all-day-long...all-weekend-long on the other side...
...you tell me what a mortal man should be allowed to bear?!!?]

On a more pleasant note...here's a couple of classy ladies!
Lori Ristinen [left], and Linda Karst Stone [right].

Lori, Linda, Sandy Brady, and Gaetan Beauchamp graciously...[without any wheedling on my part I can assure you]
...signed my new copy of "Contemporary Scrimshaw" by Eva Halat, in which they are featured artists.

Steve Lindsay [sitting] with forum member Tim Wells paying attention.

My friend Amayak Stepanyan watches the video screen while...
...I keep breaking Steve Lindsay's points off of his stock of sharpened gravers...what?!!?...who me?...naw, I didn't do it!

To be continued....

Ray Cover Jr.'s engraving classes, and Steve Lindsay's tools drew a lot of interest during the show.

At the GRS booth...Linda Schreck, Ron Smith and Brad Esslinger had their hands full explaining tools, technique,
and the passion for engraving to a willing crowd.
[...Oh yeah, I helped a bit in the crunch-time too!...Just being modest you know...]

Ron Smith and engraver Fred Harrington discussing...gardening tips I think?!!?

Here's Fred and Kathy Harrington at their table.
Fred's an old friend of mine, and yes...he's certifiable...

On my table [courtesy of Steve Lindsay]...
A unique "pilot wheel" engraving vise made by the late John Madole, holds an engraved plate
made by recently deceased engraver Bertil Aasland.

Dusty Moulton, Steve Lindsay, and Jim Small.
[That's an O.D. man's bag Jim's holding there...NOT a man's purse!...just want to make that clear to 'ya all.
]

This to me is the best shot of 'em all...
It's never too early to get kids interested in a rewarding vocation.

That's my story, and I'm sticking with it!

Thanks for viewing.

Tim

Great shots!! I loved the one of Steve and the little guy. Say, what's the story on the video screens everyone seems to have this year? Is there a website you can send me? I'm hoping to be at Blade next year for sure, you people just have way to much fun. Thanks!
Robert

Sounds as if you all had a great time. Hope I can make it next year. All that talent in one place......SCAREY!!!!

One comment Tim......I think it should be "It's never to early to get kids interested in a rewarding vocation." I can still remember being in my Dad's workshop at around the age of 4 and him letting me loose on a copper plate! We were looking for something a few weeks back and he found it. "This is what your engraving was like 40 years ago," he told me as he handed me the plate. I was lucky to have been brought up with an engraving background but I wish there were more youngsters willing to go the whole hog and learn the art. I don't know what it's like in the USA (or NZ, Andrew?) but over here youngsters want to be earning the big bucks straight after leaving school....I think it's called 'instant gratification' or something.

Thanks Marcus.
Ray's daughter is interested in taking up the graver...look out!

Can we have TOO much fun at the Blade Show?...Let's test that theory in '07!

Those that took photos during the event can send them to me for posting here if you don't have the means yourself.

Mike Webb,
We missed having you. I'll save you a spot at next years dinner gathering and you can light a fire under Marcus to join in with this rabble!

More pics to come, with an update on the new "Artist's Area" being establish for next years event!
Stay tuned.

Tim

More pictures!

Don Cowles [tan shirt] with son Dave.

Alex Whetsell [Atlanta Virtual] at his KnifeKits booth.
I can't say it enough...Thanks Alex for making this forum possible!

Dinner shot.

Rick Eaton made an award winning knife that has an African big game hunting scene done in the bulino style.
There's 700+ hours in this beauty!

Rick Eaton at his table.

Japanese Engraver/Knifemaker Shigeru Tozaki and his wife Yoku.

Fellow Wisconsinite Zaza Revishvili at his display table.

Scrimshander/Knifemaker Gaetan Beauchamp.

Artist's Area Update:
I talked a bit with Blade Show hostess Mary Lutz regarding a feature area within the show for Scrimshanders, Engravers,
and Carving/Sculpting artists.
Mary will work out the logistics in the coming months...but I'll let her unpack first!

This is the list of interested exhibitors that hold tables at the Blade Show;
Rick Eaton, Lori Ristinen, Zaza Revishvili, Joe Mason, Simon Lytton, Gaetan Beauchamp, Ray Cover Jr/Steve Lindsay, Sandra Brady,
Dusty Moulton, Billy Bates, Bill Ellis, Shigeru Tozaki, Linda Karst Stone, Penny Graham Engraving, Jim and Joyce Minnick, and Tim Adlam.

That's what I call a one-stop-shopping network!...

Tim

Tim,
Enjoyed meeting you and thanks for posting the photos of the knife I had great time at the show. It was good to be back in Atlanta, hadn't been in a few years. Was going to try to come to the dinner with all the other engravers, but one of my collectors took us out instead.

All the best
Rick
