I have an opportunity to buy a knife of Carolyn D. Tinker maker (Whittier, CA). I would want to know the value of this knives. The knife is in mint condition, the blade is in perfect condition and the handle I think is in Cocobolo (dalbergia). Thanks for all the information that you will want give to me. |

Mrs. Tinker is dead more years ago, but it was a good knifemaker with a its personal style. You haven't never seen its knives?

Hi Riccardo,
I wish I could offer you any info, but in my experiences in handling and discussing custom knives, I have never even heard of this maker. That's a common problem with the little-known makers--they simply fade away unless they made a notable mark in knifemaking society. I hope someone can fill in some blanks. Good luck. Coop |

Hello Bobby,
thanks for your indication. I have found an article on an old number of Blade Magazine in which it speaks about the Tinker. The mrs. had an unmistakable and beautiful style. Ciao |

First Lady member of the Knifemaker's Guild
I was fortunate enough to have spent several hours with Ms. Tinker in her workshop during the mid-80s. She was gracious and willing to share her techniques with anyone. She made a nice knife at a reasonable price. Her craftmanship was excellent and she was one of 5 signatures that I had on my Guild application in 1990.

Hi Brad, Hi Bob,
in my last post I have make an error, a Mrs. Tinker article was on "The gun digest book of knives" by Jack Lewis and Roger Combs, I have this old book and on it there is an long article that present all Mrs. Tinker knives collection. A friend of mine have one knife of this Lady, the knife is in mint condiction and I'd like buy it for the just price. Her knives are much elegant, effective and constructively simple. Thanks |
