Engraved Overeynder
This Card Knife is a project that Tom Overeynder and I collaborated on. It has a royal flush on one side and four aces on the other. Your comments are welcome.

I like the Deco vibe. It reminds me of the work Charles Rennie Mackintosh did for W.J. Bassett-Lowke (a bit random but intended as a compliment).

One of the best examples I have seen of the knife design really suited to the engraving.

Thanks everyone for all the nice comments.
Rich, I worked really hard on coloring those little red cards. It is hard to find a paint that has enough red pigment in it to show up on a very small cut. I used a bright red sign painters paint. When I painted signs, it was great because it would cover up most anything in one stroke. The problem would be if fingers are rubbed over the aces oil could dis-color the red and it could turn brown and then black. The aces were required by the owner, but he was warned about handling the aces. I thought about the emamel, but it must be heated and the heat would break down the glue on the pearl. Joe |

Thanks for the explanation Joe.. You know, Ron Nott did some engraving for me once where we used the same theme. Aces and Eights on one side, and a cool little derringer on the other. I remember sending him some close ups of his work, but can't seem to locate my own copies.. (Lame..)..
I was going to send them to you just for fun and comparrison.. Again, a fine job Joe.. Best, Rich |

Great job Joe. The layout is very artistic. Joe you could use ceramit and cure it at a warm room temp it will take longer (where you live warm shouldn't be a problem. Just a slight undercut would insure it's bond. That small of an area the ceramit would have to be thinned and it would flow in flawlessly. Give me a call or drop me an email anytime. I have a little experience with this stuff.
Beautiful work. |

Rich,
Thanks, I have seen the gambling knife that Ron did. I think the cards and gun were on top of scroll with gold inlay. I would like to see them again. Mike, I would like to know more about ceramit. I will send you an email. Joe |
