Depending on the shape and how much it needs to be enlarged, stretching can be done. Otherwise, it will need to be re-sized by soldering.
If you just bought it, perhaps the place you purchased it from can help? Good Luck, Peter |

If you have a mandrel you can hammer the shank on the bottom and then turn it and hammer the side of the shank to keep it from becoming to thin, next file and sand and polish...
Silver can be enlarged or made smaller as long as there's no stone or inlay with a torch... Jerry |

Sizing Silver
Many jewelry shops have no technicians who really understand the metal. silver work hardens and needs to be annealed to be dead soft again but it can be stretched, it can be wrought and it can be hammered but you need to anneal it or it will work harden and crack. annealing can be done either in an oven or with a torch. Usually its done with a torch on an asbestos pad.

Santino I just took a jewelry and metal smithing class at the local college, check and see if you have one at the college near you. I am sure they would be happy to help you.
You are going to need to use a ring mandrel and a raw hide mallet to stretch this and I would suggest annealing it first. We did our annealing on some kind of rock looks like vermiculite but much bigger pieces and very light and used a torch. |
