gambler and gal knife

This one will be at BLADE. John Young made the knife and I think it will be on his table.

Jim,

I won't be making it to BLADE. I will try to get some pictures up from time to time.

Lee,

I like how you handled this push dagger concept, very approprate!
Nice balance of gold accents, and a sense of cleverness that's not over done.
I'll try to get over to John's table to see this one in-the-flesh.
Wish you could attend Blade again someday, we had a hoot the last time!

Tim

very nicely done; clean, beautiful, and powerful. And I agreewith Tim about the ballance of the gold accents. Wish I could go to the Blade Show this year. But, right now waiting to get my shoulder reconstructed.

Lee, beautiful work! I love your line technique bulino work. I am trying to learn it a lot more as the different effects you can get over dots is cool and I think would be a nice mix of techniques. I am working over emails with one of the engravers at Creative Art in Italy and he is helping a lot with the line work. he has sent me gravers ground and sharpened like he uses. I really would like to see with a loupe the cuts on the girls face and how you get that smooth airbrushed look with just lines! Very impressed.
What type of burin are you using for lines? Is it sharpened from the belly up like the Italians use? Thank you for any help. I bought that casting of the dragon you did and am learning a lot. Thanks so much for making things like that available to us.

Tim,

On the girl I used an Italian style bulino graver. As you know girls and smooth skinned objects are a real challenge. When I use lines, and I believe this would be true of most if not all line engravers, at some point the lines become so short they essentially appear as dots.
