I want to forge a drift ...but I need to know the measurements that will fit the ready made hawk handles. Thanks, Ken

Here's a drawing of the top of the Crazy Crow Ash Handles. The hickory handles are about the same only the taper comes to more of a point. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the information, Chuck...but I'm wondering is this the same measurements of the handles as sold by Rade Hawkins. I would still need to know the amount of taper at the head...from the tip backwards....so that when the head is placed on the handle it wedges tighter as it nears the tip or big end of the handle. I guess that is clear as mud. :O

Give Raymond Richard a shout - I'm pretty sure he's worked with both of them. I can do a side outline of the CC ones if you want. There is quite a bit of meat on these so they take some fitting even on the heads they sell that go with the handles.

Get in touch with Robert Washburn, he has the drifts for $20.00. They just aren't worth the time and hassel to make. Pretty sure all the hawk handles are the same, I had just got two different orders in and as far as size goes there the same. The drift I got from Rade Hawkins was somewhat smaller than the ones from Robert. If your wanting to still make a drift the size and shape that Chuck gave you will work except you want to make the widest point a little bigger. The bottom of the drift is about 3/4 X 1/2 and tappers in about 10" to the drawing that Chuck has supplied.
