help identifying grandfathers old hunter. pics now
Recently found this in the barn. He had it buried in bucket of junk for decades. The text on the blade is nearly gone it is worn so bad. On 1 side i see "ST" space and "Cut" which I guess was cutlery. On the other side I looks like "X-5". Any help is much appreciated

I don't think there's anything to identify there. That appears to be a knife someone - maybe your grandpa - made from a file. It doesn't appear to be commercially made. The 'Cut' is probably all that's left of 'Mill Cut' or some similar file designation. At a guess, I'd say the maker had the handle, guard, and butt cap of a Marbles field knife and needed to replace a broken blade so he made a new blade from a file.......
