Most recent knife
Here is the knife I have been working on. It is my first saber grind and it turned out better than any I have tried to far. It actually looked pretty good until I started buffing the handle and went through the tape a few times and somehow got a good amount of tiny scratches on the bevel. I went to touch it up and ground to high on the bevel on both sides. Very displeased with the finish but excited I had a good saber grind and did my best job so far on the handle.

Tape a piece of sandpaper very tight to a piece of wood or metal, tight, no slack, sharp corners. Work it forward from the handle, do not go back and forth with a sharp edge to the handle. That will help to get rid of the over scratches on the flats. May cause a bit of swirls at the handle, but better looking than those scratches.

Tell me about the handle. Looks like micarta black/grey leather. How did you get the luster shine mines dull after sanding to 400 grit.

Jim I will give that a try.
The handle is black linen micarta. I worked my was up through the grits to 800 grit. I used really light pressure when I got past 400 grit. I then buffed it with a pink compound and that is what brought out the shine. |
