I need Help Finding stuff

Huy folks,

I have a question and I am hoping one of you fine folks can help me out. I am looking for a supplier of finishing stones.

I have been using Gesswein pencils stones because they are small and handy for the jobs I use stones on. I just called Gesswein and they have discontinued the set I wanted to buy.

I have seen other brands out there like "Titan", "Norton", etc. Do any of you folks who use finishing stones have supply sources other than Gesswein that I could order stones from?

I am not unhappy with Gesswein I am just looking to widen my options.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Ray

Ray, check the MSC catalog, or go to www.mscdirect.com. They have an assortment of stones, reasonably priced. You might consider the EDM stones, available in many grit sizes.

Also check Rio Grande's tool catalog.

Don,

I looked in my MSC catalog but their stones are more expensive than Gessweins in general. They did not have what I wanted either. I am not looking for stones for hardened steel. The EDM stones are great for that. What I am looking for are soft finishing stones for finishing the surfaces on my hobo nickels. I also want to get some ceramic finishing stones that I will hold the shape I grind on them for tight corners.

Gesswein use to carry a variety pack of their pencil sized finishing stones but they no longer carry them.

I can still order the stone individually and make up my own set but it will cost me about 40% more than the set used to cost.

Ray

Ray, Garett-Wade carries sets of soft, pencil-sized stones in different cross section shapes, and different grits. If you are going to the Vegas show this month, I will bring you a few samples.

Don,

I am not familiar with Garrett-Wade. Do they have a web site or catalog?

Ray

I just received AlOx soft finishing stones from MSC today. I got 600-1000 grit 1/4x1/2x6", $4.97 each. P/N for the 1000g is 51032795. They have 1/4x1/4, too.

I recently got a ceramic slip set from Wood Carvers Supply, Inc. 1-941-698-0123. Set of 1/4x5" triangle, square, round and 1/2"x5 heart shape. $41. P/N 588004 Very high quality ceramic.

Ray,
We polish our injection mold cavities with either Falcon abrasives or Congress die star stones. We've swiched more to the Congress brand just because Falcon changed their "recipe" on their courser stones. They tend to rip and tear at the steel. I havn't had any trouble with their higher grits though. I'm sure both companys have websites.

Ray, Garrett-Wade's web site is http://www.garrettwade.com, although I just checked the site for the stones so I could give you a more direct link, and didn't find them. Maybe they have discontinued them too. Sorry.
