lock back pin
I am ready to assemble my first lock back and my question is as follows:
The pin that holds the blade has a rivet like end. I assume you insert the pin through the bolsters( and through the blade) and cut off the extra and pien the cut off end? What do you do about the rivet end while peining as to keep it in good shape? I think I am to insert some sort of shim so the blade can still move. I was thinking I could use one of those brass spark plug gapers. Would this work and what size would work? Cheers Ron. |

I have made several folders and the shim I use is an old Gillette razor blade. I broke it straight down the middle where the long hole is. I then took one end of one piece and ground a groove wide enough and deep enough for the pivot pin to fit into. After the pin is peened, I put a vicegrip on the end and slowly wiggled it out of the bolster. I've been lucky and haven't broke one yet.

Sorry! Forgot to mention that I used a dremel with a thin partoff wheel to cut the groove.

Good on ya I should have a old razor blade somewhere and it sounds like a good idea.
Cheers Ron. |
