Hi,
I Have a Sony 8.1 Megapixel Camera, DSC-W150. I took these Photo's with the Light tent Setup as Shown. I Used 80w Daylight Globes in the side lghts. with the Floodlight on top. Photo 1= No touchup with Photoshop elements. Photo 2= Used Just the Auto Contrast to Correct. Please Can Some-one set me in the right Direction. __________________ ChrisB. chris@cbknives.com www.cbknives.com "If you are patient in one Moment of Anger, You will Escape a hundred Days of Sorrow." |

Hi Chris,
Start by setting your 'white balance' on your camera to the incandescent bulb setting (Indoors). Here's what's available (according to one website review): Quote:
Your cleanup work by software worked wonders. Lets not rely only on that. Get it right at the source. Coop |

Hi Coop, Thank You, !!
What Do You Mean By More Exposure? I will set the White Balance like you Suggest, Look up in the Manual!!! And I Agree, I don't want to Rely on software touchup all the Time. Will Give it another Go.!!! Thanks!!! __________________ ChrisB. chris@cbknives.com www.cbknives.com "If you are patient in one Moment of Anger, You will Escape a hundred Days of Sorrow." |

Slow the shutter down 1 step or go 1 f-stop down to get more exposure.

Hi Chris,
More exposure = brighter. SIXFOOTER is correct: Decrease the shutter speed or decrease the f-stop (aperture). Both of these assume you are shooting in Manual mode, not Auto mode. Keep that manual handy! Show new examples. Coop |

O.K. this is what I tried, I used the Programmable Mode "P" and set the Iso to 200, and it has a 'DRO' mode for focus, and "Incadesent" Lighting
This was Shot with the above settings no Touch-up Also Tried this Hunter which has a Mirror polished Blade, at the same Settings. Also No Touch-up __________________ ChrisB. chris@cbknives.com www.cbknives.com "If you are patient in one Moment of Anger, You will Escape a hundred Days of Sorrow." |

Hi Chris,
Well, you are MUCH closer to your goal now than you were. At this point, light positioning will help: On the scrimmed piece, less reflection on the blade and more on the handle would highlight this better. I constantly move my lights to highlight the areas of interest. You may also change the blade positioning to achieve this. Move it in the box, and don't simply accept the blade laying flat on the bottom. rotate and support it with a small balled up piece of tape with the sticky side out. Once you have the basics of lighting and camera settings, then you can move onto a slightly more colorful background. Go easy initially. Good work. Coop |

Thanks Coop,
I see the Camera also has a "Brightness" Setting in "P" mode, it goes from 0 to -2 and 0 to +2 will try this as well. What type of lights should I use, Maybe get some more Smaller Flood lights? , The Spotlights I Have Don't seem to give me Enought Light. I Agree will play with Backgrounds once I have the Photo's RIGHT. Thanks Again for Your Help. __________________ ChrisB. chris@cbknives.com www.cbknives.com "If you are patient in one Moment of Anger, You will Escape a hundred Days of Sorrow." |

Nicely done, Chris.
Looks like color balance issues are very close, if not perfect, and you now have the ability to overexpose your work. I'd step it back a notch, but it's sure clear now. What new lights did you acquire? Coop |

Hi Coop, How Do You Mean By Overexpose?
I'm using some Cool Light Energy Saving Globes 100w and Stands. Also A Bigger Flood Light Housing with Energy Saving Globes. Much Less Heat While I'm trying to Concentrate, I'ts Summer Here Now, 32C in the Afternoons. __________________ ChrisB. chris@cbknives.com www.cbknives.com "If you are patient in one Moment of Anger, You will Escape a hundred Days of Sorrow." |

Underexposed: too dim. Unatural to the eye.
Correct exposure: Just right. Looks natural. Overexposed: Brighter to the point of too bright. Whatever lights you have they're working now. Sounds like you got daylight fluorescents. Smart. Coop |

Thanks Coop, Now I understand, You Must Excuse my Inexperiance, I never had to take photo's of this Kind. I normally just Point and Shoot.
Will Keep on Trying. __________________ ChrisB. chris@cbknives.com www.cbknives.com "If you are patient in one Moment of Anger, You will Escape a hundred Days of Sorrow." |
