A long time coming ... wootz knife (pics)



Blade, Ric Furrer wootz. Fittings, silver with mokume ferrule. Handle, ironwood with shallow relief carving. Length, 13 and 1/2 inches. For sale, $3,200. taigoo@msn.com

Sweany, it is the 1% (aprox.) carbon not the 2% carbon type, so it was pretty much like forging file steel. Doing the stock reduction by hand was tough though, because of the carbide crystals in the wootz.

Where is the balance point? The knife looks comfortable. Are you doing a sheath for it?

What size piece of wootz did you start with?

Beyond belief Blade, thanks for sharing. The Mokume looks etched. I have some by Phil Baldwin mokume but never have used it, may have sent it to my brother-in-law a jewler.

I use your cactus handle knife frequently for easy chores, Goeduck hammerins for groceries at the table, and other tasks, really like it.
