New guy
Im a total hack that just started around Christmas. Lacking many tools and experience I hope to gain some traction and advice. Im located an hour east of charlotte.
Link is to a gallery of my progress. Greatful to a few friends that have donated to the effort. https://goo.gl/photos/znaqtEQWhYkA3zqLA |

A forger I see. I sometimes forge at the college by me in Burnsville NC which has blacksmithing classes and even knife forging classes from time to time. They tend to be two day classes ($70 + materials=$100) and I trade teaching advanced tig welding techniques for forge time. Your knives don't look bad for first try so you're doing OK.
Ray Rogers has some of the best DVDs for building your own gas forge (propane) and how to grind knives. Everyone says they are like being there in person. Ray is a moderator here. |

Gabriel, I highly recommend you attend one of the NC Knifemakers guild meetings. I believe the next one is 21 Oct. Information on the guild can be found here http://www.ncknifeguild.com/calendar.html
Hope to see you there! Darrin |

Gab, might be a bit of a hump, but if you don't mind the drive and like to camp, you are welcome to come to my Trackrock Hammer-in over in Blairsville, GA. We have several NC folks attending as well as several other surrounding states (and a few other countries as well). You can see a lot of different set up styles and watch all levels of smithing skills in action. Very casual, open to the public and no admission fees. Check the thread out on the Georgia Guild Forum here on KNF for more details.
ps - some really great folks in the NC Guild, great hook-up for beginners (don't be shy). __________________ Carl Rechsteiner, Bladesmith Georgia Custom Knifemakers Guild, Charter Member Knifemakers Guild, voting member Registered Master Artist - GA Council for the Arts C Rex Custom Knives Blade Show Table 6-H |
