O - 1 Oil Hard Steel?
I am completely new to the Knife Network so please excuse my ignorance and limited knowledge regarding knife-making. I discovered some steel that has the label, "O-1 Regular Oil Hard Ground Flat Stock" written on the package. It is 1/16" thick and 1/2" wide. Can this material(1.) be used to make a small carving knife, and (2.) does anything else have to be done to this steel prior to. . . .or after. . . my feeble attempt at this endeavor? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

the O-1 steel will make great blades for wood carving or almost any other need.the steel can be worked as is with a grinder and file prior to heat treating. you may want to post on the metalurgy and heatreating forum to get specifics on hardening and tempering temperatures.
